Nurturing the Human-Animal Bond

When we began to build this page we thought of all of our own beloved pets as well as those of family, friends and clients and wanted to open with a poem that conveyed the depth of the Human-Animal Bond as we are fortunate to get to experience it every day. After reviewing many touching and well done poems we decided a sincere and touching letter to us from one of our clients honored that philosophy perfectly. The letter below was written to us by the family of Gracie a beautiful and sweet soul of an English Springer Spaniel.

Dear Oswego Veterinary Hospital,

Words can simply not express our deepest gratitude to all of you that have cared for Gracie for nearly fifteen years.

It seems impossible that it that long ago that Dr. Sandifer gave Gracie her first puppy check up when she was only eight weeks old. The years with her daily presence have flown by and through those years you have cared for her and nurtured her. When it was time to say goodbye you honored her spirit with the dignity and grace she deserved even then you did not let her down but attended to her needs to help her exit this life and start her journey into the next.

The writer Erica Jong said this;

Dogs come into our lives to teach us about love and loyalty  they depart to teach us about loss.

A new dog never replaces an old dog but merely expands the heart. It will be honoring her spirit that we will be, once again, introducing you to the newest member of our family, - hopefully in early summer. Gracie would have wanted that for us to not be alone without a dog to take care of us and I am certain too that she will be wagging her tail in heaven as she looks down on us.
