Jessie Merritt CVPM– Practice Manager with OVH since 2002

Jessie was one of those children who seemed to migrate to animals from the day she was born. Bringing home "stray" animals and nursing injured wildlife was a routine part of her childhood. Jessie’s first position in the veterinary profession was in the late 1980’s as a kennel attendant in a large hospital in a New Jersey Suburb.

But it wasn’t until 1988, when she was hired as a veterinary assistant in a wonderful practice in Pleasanton, California that she truly began to understand the compassion, skill, goodness and dedication of the people in her profession.

Since those years Jessie has been proud to carry the title of Kennel Assistant, Technician, Receptionist, Office Manager and finally Practice Manager.

Professionally, Jessie has been studying for over 2 years to sit for a certification exam to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager and earned that designation in September 2009.

Personally she was recently married to a wonderful man named Jeff and in their spare time they enjoy music, hiking, their Grandsons, camping, mother nature and gardening and working on their new home. Jeff and Jessie have one Australian Cattle dog named Ringo (The Worlds Smartest Dog), one Giant Schnauzer "Cajun", the family juvenile delinquent and two adorable if slightly genetically challenged Persian type Kitties, "the ladies" are Dot and The Amazing Miss Bella Boo. You can see their pictures under our photo's page!

If you ask Jessie about life, she will say "one of the things that will always bring me my greatest sense of fulfillment is spending my days working side by side with people I truly admire, that share the goal of helping our clients and take the best possible care of their much loved pets. All of that and puppy breath too, it doesn’t get much better than that".

Melisa Evans – Lead Receptionist with OVH since 2005
Originally from Northern California, Melisa and her husband Randy moved to Portland in November of 2005. Melisa has 3 cats and a dog, these include Zoe, a grey and white domestic shorthair, Mr. Doobs a Maine Coon Siamese mix, Princess a torti-tabby domestic shorthair and Willie a Yorkie mix. Look for Willie on our Photo's page!
Melisa’s career in the animal field began when she decided not to use her degree in Fashion Merchandising and pursue a more purposeful path. She started working for the SPCALA animal shelter in 2002 and stayed there for 2.5 years. Since then she has worked in veterinary hospitals in a variety of positions.
Melisa is currently the Lead Receptionist at OVH as well as our own in house Reiki practitioner; her hobbies include hiking, camping, dancing, cooking and metaphysical studies. Spread the love!

Renee Mako - Receptionist with OVH since 2008

Renee is a native Oregonian and Portlander, born and raised in the Sellwood neighborhood.  After attending the University of Oregon and living in a couple of other cities, she is back to the place where she belongs.

Early on Renee had a desire to spend her life with furry companions.  In fact, she will never forgive her parents for not allowing her to have a dog!  However, Renee has always lived with cats and now has three.  Otis, Reggie and Teddy are one of her greatest joys.  Because of this love of animals, Renee's receptionist position at OVH hardly seems like work!  She looks forward to learning more about veterinary medicine and getting to know clients and patients.
